Development Analyst II

The Development Analyst’s role is to define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain new software applications in support of the achievement of project requirements. This includes writing, coding, testing, and analyzing software programs and applications. The Development Analyst will also research, design, document, and modify software specifications throughout the production life cycle.

Responsibilities - Strategy & Planning

  • Collaborate with developers, programmers, and designers in conceptualizing and development of new software programs and applications.
  • Analyze and assess existing business systems and procedures.
  • Assist in the definition, development, and documentation of software’s business requirements, objectives, deliverables, and specifications on a project-by-project basis in collaboration with users and departments.
  • Assist in defining software development project plans, including scoping, scheduling, and implementation.
  • Research, identify, analyze, and fulfill requirements of all internal and external program users.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Conduct research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Liaise with vendors for efficient implementation of new software products or systems and for resolution of any adaptation issues.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades.

Operational Management

  • Liaise with network administrators, systems analysts, business analysts, business systems analysts to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems.
  • Consistently write, translate, and code software programs and applications according to specifications.
  • Write programming scripts to enhance functionality and/or performance of applications as necessary.
  • Design, run and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging.
  • Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas.
  • Generate statistics and write reports for management and/or team members on the status of the programming process.
  • Develop and maintain user manuals and guidelines.
  • Train end users to operate new or modified programs as required.
  • Install software products for end users as required.
  • Provide guidance and/or instruction to junior staff members.

Position Requirements - Formal Education & Certification

  • University degree in the field of computer science, information systems, or software engineering.
  • 3-10 years equivalent work experience.
  • 2 related technical certifications.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proficiency in programming languages related to the project
  • Excellent understanding of coding methods and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of the Agile Development process.
  • Extensive experience with related to the project relational database and operating systems.
  • Thorough understanding of platforms related to the project.
  • Solid working knowledge of related to the project Internet technologies.
  • Prior experience interviewing end-users for insight on functionality, interface, problems, and/or usability issues.
  • Hands-on experience developing test cases and test plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Ability to lead a small team of junior staff

Business Systems Analyst – Retail

The Business Systems Analyst is a lead role in systems development of retail solutions. The analyst interacts with clients to identify/collect requirements and proposes solutions; participates in system design; coordinates system development and testing activities; and provides customer support for system delivery. The analyst also conducts market researches and data analysis to identify new features and enhancements of the retail solutions. The position requires extensive knowledge in retail industry and hands on experience in system design, development, testing and support of retail solutions.

Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning

  • Interact with business clients to identify/understand requirements and propose business/systems solution to fulfill the requirements
  • Collaborate with designers, developers and programmers in conceptualizing and development of retail solutions

  • Work closely with members of the development and QA teams to review requirements and implement solutions
  • Plan, design and co-ordinate the development, installation, integration and operation of the retail systems
  • Support clients in User Acceptance Test of new systems
  • Write programming scripts to enhance functionality and/or performance of applications as necessary
  • Design, run and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging

Position Requirements
Knowledge and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science/Engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 6 years of systems development experience in retail industry
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on software development experience in Java/JEE environment
  • Hands on Experience in development and support in Point of Sale (POS) systems
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented design, design patterns and UML
  • Technologies required: .Net, Java, JEE, XML, SQL, PL/SQL, Hibernate, iBatis, Junit, JMeter, Web Service (RESTful, SOAP), SOA, Spring Framework, Spring Data JPA, Sprint-Boot, HTLM, CSS, JSP, Servlet, Struts, AngularJS, JavaScript
  • Hands on experience in clustered environment using WebLogic/JBoss/WebSphere, batch processes in Linux and Oracle/MySQL database
  • Experience with Git, Maven, Unix shell commands
  • Hands on experience using webMethods
  • This position is contingent upon receipt of a clear criminal record check

Nice to Have:

  • Understanding of Big Data concepts, MapReduce
  • Experience with Hadoop tools
  • Experience with BI tools
  • Experience in R programming
  • Knowledge of Regular Expressions
  • Ability to speak and write Cantonese and/or Mandarin to support Chinese market
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle is an asset

Compensation: $85,000 - $100,000 (pro-rated) per annum, plus benefits (after completion of the required probationary period)     

Location:             Toronto, ON, with occasional travel to customer sites (required)

Hours:                  40 hours per week and overtime as required
